Plate Rolls: Torsion bar v Electronic balancing

An electric side roll balancing system such as the ROCCIA Srl DCRP system gives good stability and rigidity to the plate rolling machine during the bending cycle. Plate Rolls using the traditional
‘Torsion bar’ system is, of course, effective & reliable, but being a mechanical system it will always be
prone to the Plate Roll frame, the actual  torsion bar fabrication deflecting, thus causing ovality,
or out of level on the longitudinal seam edges.

The electronic balancing system gives 0.1mm of precision on positioning and levelling during bending, a  ‘Torsion bar’ systems use rotary encoders, which can theoretically achieve this accuracy 0.1mm,
but frame deflection etc does impact on precision.

Additionally electric side roll balancing systems allow the interpolation of 2 or more axis, i.e the top roll rotation and side roll movement at the same time, this being necessary if you need to roll complex shapes,  ovality etc, i.e. road tanker tank profiles

Moreover, an electric side roll balancing system such as the ROCCIA Srl DCRP system will work perfectly even if the machine has not been correctly levelled, this means that if the Plate Roll is moved from one location to another,  the electric side roll balancing system will reset the axes automatically, very fast (about 5-7 seconds per each roll). With a ‘Torsion bar’ system, you have to manually adjust the levelling of the side rolls.

A plate roll with electronic side roll balancing additionally allows an upgrade or retrofit of an NC or CNC system, such as the ROCCIA Srl  “plug & play” with the RHY-200 panel gives the customer the possibility to install an NC or a full CNC at any time

If you purchase a Plate roll ‘Torsion bar system and you later want to install a CNC… you’d better sell the machine and buy a new one!
