Machine motor does not start
Cutting Torch not assembled correctly
Low power to the plasma stream, The drive axis [X+Y+Z ] is not functioning plasma cutting table software problems, possible operator retraining issue
Insufficient flow and pressure of gas and coolant system needs recalibrating
Damaged torch
Torch collisions with cut material – Collisions can irreparably damage a torch
Electrical faults such as sticking contactors
Fume extraction not working
Plasma generator showing a fault code
At the beginning of the work shift, inspect the plasma cutting machine a visual inspection of all areas will allow you to notice and address small issues before they become significant problems
It is important to understand the function, design, and operation of your plasma cutting machine
The operators role in service / maintenance of a Plasma Cutting Machine is a major part of keeping the equipment running efficiently. It is important to immediately investigate strange noises, vibrations, or something that doesn’t look right. The quicker problems are detected and corrected, can often mean a less expensive fix.
By keeping an eye on Torch condition, gas flow, machine cleanliness, a metal fabricator can ensure that a plasma cutting machine is performing as it should.
A service / maintenance / check list should include the following key areas
Check condition of the cutting torch, change consumable items tips, nozzles etc as required
Check all gas flow and pressures – Check all gas storage levels, re order as required
Calibrate the axis drives
Clean longitudinal & cross travel rails
Clean out the Plasma cutting machine table dross draws
Change material support bars if they are in poor condition
Check condition of filters in AEROm Fume extraction cabinet
Electrical Systems:
Emergency stop buttons, check the dual circuits relays, check the safety relay, look for welding of contactors
Check all terminal strip connections , relays, terminal boxes on motors.
Reseat all printed circuit boards and check for physical damage (cracked solder points, burned parts, etc.).
Check all voltages coming from power supplies and transformers.
Check all external cables and switches fittings for damage
Check oil and control panel cooling fans are operational.
Clean control cabinet to remove dust particles
